Since it is more stable and less volatile than chlorine, bromine is used as a disinfectant in swimming pools, spas and hot baths. As in the case of chlorine, an excessive amount of bromine in water can be dangerous to health and cause eye irritation. Daily monitoring of bromine concentrations prevents damage to the equipment and contributes to the optimization and efficiency of the process while facilitating greater user safety.The HI3830 portable bromine test kit determines the level of bromine in water quickly and efficiently. The case is compact, making the kit suitable for "on-site" testing. For this test to work properly, there should be no chlorine or iodine in the water sample.The first step involves adjusting the pH of the sample to pH 6.3 by adding a pH buffer. The second step is to add the second reagent, an indicator solution containing DPD (N, N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine). DPD is immediately oxidized by bromine producing a reddish color. The color intensity of the solution determines the bromine concentration. The colorimetric test is a method to determine the concentration of a chemical element or compound (organic or inorganic) in a solution with the help of a color reagent. Using special Hanna reagents, our test kits measure the strength or weakness of a chemical presence according to the degree of color saturation. That is, if it has a pale color, the chemical concentration is low. If the color is strong, then the chemical concentration is high. Simply add the reagent to the compound to be tested and match the obtained color to a color chart included in the kit.There is no need to buy a new kit when reagents run out. The HI3830-060 reagent kit can be ordered to replace the reagents supplied with the kit. Each kit is supplied complete with: • Reagent 1 (30 mL). • Reagent 2 (20 mL). • 1 Color Comparator Cube. • 1 Plastic Container.
